While enjoying a sunny day on Cortez Beach (a favorite stretch of sand just minutes from Dan’s Florida Condos), 11-year-old Josie was combing the shore with her family when she made an incredible discovery: a message in a bottle.

Yes, an actual message in a glass bottle, complete with folded origami birds and a hand-written note inside. What started as a simple search for seashells quickly turned into a cross-ocean connection. The note included a phone number and a cheerful message inviting the finder to reach out—and when the family texted it, they discovered the bottle had been released eight years ago… from Oahu, Hawaii.

Let that sink in: over 5,000 miles and who-knows-how-many tides later, that bottle washed up right here on our little island. It’s believed to have traveled through the Panama Canal (maybe even caught a ride on a ship), with a bit of help from storms and sea currents. Sting would be proud—this was an S.O.S. that did get answered.
