US to lift Covid travel ban for vaccinated travelers from UK and most of EU

US to lift Covid travel ban for vaccinated travelers from UK and most of EU

A statement which will be made later today will officially announce the US will lift Covid-19 travel restrictions to allow fully vaccinated passengers to travel from the UK and EU to travel into the country starting in November 2021, the Biden administration has announced.

Many travelers in the UK and Europe have been waiting quite some time for this announcement, especially those that have been banned from visiting their favorite vacation destination in Anna Maria Island, Florida and Dan’s Florida Condos.

The statement from the White House will mark the end of a travel ban imposed by more than 18 months ago in the early stages of the pandemic, and comes after intense lobbying from Brussels and London.

European diplomats, and the Commission, have been pushing the U.S. for months to lift the ban, which they see as unjustified. The lift is expected to apply to Schengen-area citizens, as well as people from the U.K. and Ireland common travel area.

With this exciting news, Dan’s Florida Condos will be happy to welcome back guests again from the UK and Europe. We have availability in both our 1 bedroom and 2-bedroom units in November and beyond, to host those excited to return to Anna Maria Island, Florida. For more information and availability, please visit out booking website at: www.dansfloridacondos.com.

Let’s all continue to be safe and follow travel and safety guidelines as we welcome our EU and European travelers back to Anna Maria, Island.

Anna Maria Island, FL – Top Spot Among US 25 Most Popular Beach Towns

Anna Maria Island, FL – Top Spot Among US 25 Most Popular Beach Towns

Newsweek released their 25 Most Popular Beach Towns in America ranking, and Anna Maria Island Florida took the top spot.

The ranked beach towns span over 20 states, with Florida, California, Delaware Hawaii and Virginia each having two towns make the list.

The towns offer something for every taste or budget, from quaint coastal to action-packed places for “adrenaline junkies.”

The town of Anna Maria Island, located in Florida’s Gulf Coast, a short 1 hour drive from Tampa or 20 minute drive from Sarasota, took the top spot in the ranking. According to Newsweek, Anna Maria Island offers a “quaint, uncrowded and uncluttered” as well as shopping shop at one of the state’s largest discount malls.

The second Florida beach town to make the list was Matlacha, a quaint little fishing village in southwest Florida with a cool vibe and lots to see. In ranking Matlacha, Newsweek said, “Pretty pastel-hued homes and galleries mingle with fishing boats and nature lovers, lending Matlacha plenty of charm for those who love waterfront living.’

Furry friends accompany human parents at Runaway Bay

Furry friends accompany human parents at Runaway Bay

Human guests are not the only who take advantage of the warm weather and pet friendly accommodations at Dan’s Florida Condos.  Each year furry friends from all over the country and even the world from time to time make Anna Maria Island, Florida their choice for their annual snowbird season getaway.

Every dog has its day at Runaway Bay, the community where Dans Florida Condos are located. Their owners are pretty lucky as well, spending part of the winter here on wonderful Anna Maria Island.

In February 2020, Maddie (posted below)  spent five weeks at Runaway Bay with her humans, Rebecca and Jennifer, from Michigan. While there, despite some initial “smiling,” Maddie made some new friends.

Maddie taking a look out the window, in search for her fellow “Snowbird” furry friends

With any luck, they hope to return next season with their snowbird parents!

Dans Florida Condos offer 1 and 2 bedroom units, which serve as both humans and pets premiere vacation accommodations on Anna Maria Island.  While we are glad to offer pet friendly accommodations, we follow and enforce our communities pet policy which limits each unit to one pet and has some size regulations.  When you reach out to Dan for booking, just mention your interest in bringing your furry friend, and we will ensure we can accommodate you while being compliant with our community rules.

A special thanks to Maddie’s human parents, Rebecca and Jennifer, for contributing the pictures and commentary.  Maddie is a 5-star guest and we are excited for the opportunity to reunite her with her fellow furry friends during their snowbird return in 2021.

Pittsburgh Pirates and their affiliate minor league team Bradenton Marauders announce 2020 schedule

A little more history about Pittsburgh Pirates Spring training and their winter home, LECOM PARK

Pirate City is a unique place because of the proximity between the work-out fields and the fans. It’s also a place in which you can “feel” baseball history while you watch the beginnings of another new year of baseball.

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Spring Training ballpark and minor league complex in Bradenton, Fla., has been home to the Prates since 1969.

The two complexes underwent $20 million in renovations as part of the team’s new 30-year lease with the city before the start of the 2008 Spring Training season.

The upgrades included lights and a new visitor’s clubhouse at LECOM Park and new offices, dormitories, renovations to the minor league clubhouse and a fifth practice field at the Pirate City minor league complex.

LECOM Park has benefited from numerous renovations since the turn of the century. The historic ballpark maintains the classic charm of a venue with more than nine decades of baseball history. The Spanish Mission-style façade visible from several blocks away is an iconic architectural feature recognized throughout professional baseball.

LECOM Park, which is also home to the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League, received the top honor of the 2018 Best of the Ballparks fan vote for High-A facilities, conducted by Ballpark Digest. The same publication has previously recognized The Friendly City’s ballfield as “Best of the Ballparks” in the Grapefruit League. LECOM Park has held the top spot among Florida Spring Training destinations since 2016.The baseball facilities at LECOM Park include two full grass fields professionally maintained year-round. Four bullpen mounds, a standalone multi-tunnel batting cage structure, home and visiting locker rooms, and an umpires’ changing area provides ample space for a wide array of baseball activities. Fixed seating can accommodate more than 7,500 fans. Standing room brings the park’s capacity to 9,000 people.

So, what are you waiting for.  Plan your trip down to Bradenton Florida to visit some up close Spring Training Baseball and cheer on the Pittsburgh Pirates.  While you are down, make sure to get in some beach time by visiting Anna Maria Island.  Dans Florida Condos (www.dansfloridacondos.com) offers you 1br and 2br units, right across the street from the Gulf of Mexico.  Only 20 minutes away from LECOM park, you can spend the half the day at the beach and half the day at the ballpark.  What a great combo!

Anna Maria City Pier – Lifeblood of AMI Continued Progress

Anna Maira City Pier - Reconstruction Upadate

Guests who visit Dan’s Florida Condos, which are located on Anna Maria Island, Florida are getting very excited about the return of the Anna Maria Island City Pier!  The pier is not only one of islands most visited tourist attractions, but is often frequented by local fisherman due to its excellent access to the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay waters.

The Anna Maria City Pier was originally built in 1911 but had to be closed in 2017 after enduring structural damage from Hurricane Irma. Anna Maria Island is buzzing with excitement, as the reconstruction of the 776-foot-long historic pier is showing amazing progress!

Anna Maria City Pier Progress
Anna Maria City Pier Progress

So far, all of the pilings have been driven into the bed of the Gulf of Mexico, forming the T-formation of the future pier walkway.  In early May 2019, bolts were installed on top of the pilings which will later be filled with caps of concrete.  Once the concrete is firmly in place, the caps will then support wood bents and beams which will ultimately support the walkway decking.

As far as the schedule of the project, the walkway should be completed by the end of August 2019.  The city, in parallel is running a bidding process with various construction firms for the building of the restaurant and bait shop.  The building configuration will be similar to the original design, which will be placed at the T-end of the pier.

One of the biggest concerns with not only local businesses but thousands of excited visitors, is ensuring the project is delivered on time.  The current contractor had a few delays as there were some issues removing concrete from the old pilings that supported the original bridge.

Anna Maria City Pier Progress
Anna Maria City Pier Progress

This should not make a significant dent in the schedule.  The city however is ensuring that any future contracts have strict language to motivate prompt delivery and, in some cases, pose up to a $495 daily fine for finishing past target dates.  The overall timeline completing the building which will house the restaurant and bait shop is 200 days once work commences.

For those interested in staying updated on Anna Maria City Pier progress, Dans Florida Condos welcomes you to like their facebook site (www.facebook.com/dansfloridacondos) or our online blog (https://www.dansfloridacondos.com/blog/) where we will be posting updates along the way, leading up to the grand opening!

Red Tide Prevention with Clams, in action on Anna Maria Island

Red Tide Prevention with Clams, in action on Anna Maria Island

Returning and new guests of Dans Florida Condos will be interested in recent activities occurring on Anna Maria Island, FL.  First off, AMI has been clear of all traces of Red Tide for months now.  In addition, local restaurant owners, nonprofit organizations, and environmental agencies are putting preventative measures to action, to help ensure the Bradenton Beach coast is not affected as it was in the late summer/fall months of 2018 from red tide.

Florida red tide, or Karenia brevis, is a type of microalgae that emits a neurotoxin when it blooms. Deadly to marine life, red tide also can make shellfish unfit to eat and can cause respiratory irritation in people.

The agency who is leading the charge is the Bradenton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency.  In March 2019, they released the first 30,000 clams into the Sarasota Bay, just off Bridge Street Pier on Bradenton Beach, FL.  This is the first segment of the preventative clam project, which in total will be distributing over 200,000 live clams into the salt water shores of our little piece of paradise.

The clams release is being monitored closely by other state and government agencies and its hoped to serve as a model for other coastal communities throughout Florida.  The clams which are composed of mostly carbon, not only clean the water but also promote seagrass growth.  This growth creates a natural buffer to sea wildlife when powerful storms visit the beaches.

The dozens of volunteers looked closely at the types of clams to purchase for the project.  They found that smaller clams, while more desirable and marketable in the seafood businesses, came with drawbacks.  Smaller clams are very prone to predators.  They are small (and delicious not only to humans) so everything within their surroundings wants to eat them.  Larger clams with thick carbon shells proved to be almost immune to surrounding predators and can live up to 35 years within the warm waters off of Anna Maria Island.

The project will not only drastically reduce chances of a return of the “once in a generation” red tide event of 2018, but also promote awareness and momentum in supporting a clean water environment throughout Anna Maria Island, FL.

Boat owners who are interested in the clam project can volunteer by calling the Sand Bar Restaurant 941-778-0444.

Latest Red Tide Report on AMI

March 2019 kicked off the spring/summer booking season.  Thousands of travelers typically start planning their vacations now that school schedules for children and other family plans are solidified.  Coincidentally, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported that no red tide was predicted in Manatee County waters through mid-March.

With no fish kills or respiratory issues reported by the NOAA in months and the addition to the Clam project to fight red tide, eager vacationers can now start booking their spring/summer vacations with a better sense of confidence that their vacations will not be impacted as many were last year.
